Did Libya really just admit to it?

Friday, August 10th, 2007

The BBC reports that Libyan Leader Gaddafi’s son admitted regarding the Bulgarian medics:

” ‘Yes, they were tortured by electricity and they were threatened that their family members would be targeted,’ ”

The article continues…

“He also said they had tied his arms and legs to a metal bar and spun him repeatedly, like a chicken on a rotisserie.”

“Mr Gaddafi also confirmed that some of the children had been infected with HIV before the medics arrived in Libya, something which international scientists say they have proven. One case was reported after their arrest.”

I don’t know about you, but I didn’t see an aknowledgement from Libya coming like this. So lets recap. Libya tortures Foreign workers providing aid and imprisons them for 8 years, extorts more than 400m USD from the international community on behalf of its tragically infected children and uses 7 human lifes to blackmail the EU, then spends a week posturing and threatening Bulgaria with economic sanctions…. let me catch my breath here…. then admits this? Wow. I’m wondering how the world responds to this. Is this all going to get brushed under the rug? I mean, kudos to Gaddafi’s son for his honesty, and I’m sure this provides alot of relief and support for the accused hearing him make these statements, but does Libya really just get to shrug and say “My bad”?
