The Short Autumn Season

This year’s fall season was in and out almost before I realized it had come. Just a month ago I was laying on the beach sucking in the last suns of summer. Just last weekend we were walking to the grocery store in the cold still of gently falling snow flakes. The heating has yet to be turned on, and there’s not much you can do about it since its CHP except plug in the portable electrics, or leave the oven open as I’m guiltily fond of doing.

The good news is hopefully the ski lifts will be able to open early this year. I’m definitely ready to pull out my board and gear-up.

We totally used to do that in Alaska, especially when it got down in the negative degrees. That reminds me of my mommy ;) That, and as disgusting as it sounds, she used to put jello mix in boiling water- hot jello is actually pretty awesome when you’re cold. Hot Tang, however, not so much.

Off to lovely Mt. Vitosha, then? The little villiages behind the lodge are so cool. It was actually better than getting to the mountain itself in a way. That day was actually one of my favorite parts of the trip ;) There is only so much one can convey to a bus driver with hand gestures and repeating the word “Vitosha” a few times. The nod of recognition at the word, and a look of “Bitch is you crazy?” as you make mountain-like inclines with your hand only gets one to the point of “Ah, VIT-osha,” and a torrent of language that is not your native tongue.

Dude, next time you’re walking to the store, and you see a perpetually drunk guy with like 5 dogs around him that are pretty vicious looking, tell Uncle Vlado I said “Holla!” That guy was a riot. He also knows all the words to “If You’re Going to San Francisco.”
