Baby It’s Cold Outside

This photograph is from tonight, looking off into the abyss from our back balcony at what is, on a sunny day, a lovely view of Mt. Vitosha.
I love the snow. I grew up in California, so maybe I’m just not used to (loathing) it, but I love it. Silent. Beautiful. The world seems to move in slow motion, yet I feel doubly productive.

You grew up in California and didn’t have to deal with driving in the mess!!!
But seriously, it is a lot better to deal with when you don’t have to drive in it. I didn’t realize until now how great Washington DC winters are with about two snowfalls a year! Well, not that I’m driving in Bulgaria. Not that I will EVER drive in Bulgaria. I don’t think I’ll complain about how bad Virginia drivers are anymore, now that I’ve seen something far worse.

Yea. I did buy a car last winter…. An Alfa Romeo Convertible…. I have some fun stories about taking her up to the mountain (basically off-road) in the winter with no chains to go boarding. What a disaster! Actually, it was a whole series of disasters as I forced several trips in that car. After a certain amount of time living in Eastern Europe you pick up this nonchalant attitude which needs to be cultured carefully to keep things from getting out of hand…

And you have indeed mastered that, my friend. You are a terror on the road in the US, so why should it be different anywhere else.
